11+ Tutoring in Wimbledon

Merton, the borough Wimbledon sits in, doesn't have any state grammar schools of its own — so Wimbledon families usually choose between a small number of highly competitive independent schools right on their doorstep, or travelling for one of the nearby grammar school systems. Grammar schools

There are no state grammar schools within Merton itself. Many Wimbledon families instead apply to the 5 grammar schools in neighbouring Sutton — Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School and Wilson's School (boys), and Nonsuch High School for Girls and Wallington High School for Girls. These schools aren't tied to a strict catchment area in the way some other boroughs' grammar schools are, so Wimbledon children can and do apply; all 5 use the same Selective Eligibility Test (SET), sat in mid-September of Year 6.

Some Wimbledon families also look towards Tiffin School and Tiffin Girls' School in nearby Kingston — two of the most sought-after grammar schools in the country, though these do use defined priority catchment areas, so it's worth checking your address against their published boundaries early.

Private & independent schools

Wimbledon itself has some of the most competitive independent schools in the country. King's College School (KCS) Wimbledon is a leading boys' school whose 11+ exam — English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning — is sat in December of Year 6. Wimbledon High School (GDST) is the equivalent leading option for girls, with reasoning tests in November followed by a creative task in January for those invited back.

Ursuline High School is a non-selective, local-authority Catholic girls' school with no entrance exam, and is a well-regarded option for families not pursuing the selective route.

Many other independent schools nationally use the ISEB Common Pre-Test alongside their own assessment — always worth confirming directly with any school you're considering.
